How to Prepare for and Maintain Your Sunless Tan

We are officially into the self-tanning season. I wanted to share a few tips on how to make your tan last and how to keep your skin healthy. Whether you use Fake Bake or if you use the spray tan at Visions Salon and Spa, these tips apply to both methods of tanning.

1.    Exfoliate

The night before you apply Fake Bake or spray tan at the salon, exfoliate your entire body. Exfoliating impurities and dead skin leave your skin clean and smooth. Not exfoliating can lead to an uneven and streaked tan.

I, personally use and recommend the BeautiControl exfoliating products.

2.    What to Avoid

Before tanning, do not apply any lotions or perfumes. If you have to use deodorant, use it sparingly! I also recommend leaving the yoga pants and jewelry at home. Wear loose clothing and no jewelry to avoid your new tan from smearing.

3.    Water

After applying Fake Bake or getting your spray tan, don’t shower, bathe or work out for 6 to 8 hours. Tanners take several hours to develop after you are finished with the application process and water can stop the development.

I know this difficult to do, but avoid swimming pools and any chemically treated water for 24-hours in order to prevent fading.

4.    Spot Removal

If you notice a streak or a spot that is too dark, use a clean sponge that is slightly rough. Soak the sponge in lemon juice to lightly rub the dark area. You should notice the area lighten up fairly quickly.

Now that you know how to prepare and maintain your tan, it’s time to schedule your appointment for a spray tan or stop by Visions and pick-up your Fake Bake kit.
